Why the Two Questions Matter

What you print determines whether you need a filament (FDM) printer or a resin (SLA) printer — they work completely differently. Budget determines the quality tier. Get both right and you’ll print for years; get either wrong and the printer gathers dust.

  • Filament (FDM) — the jack-of-all-trades. Great for functional parts, large prints, and cheap prototypes. Messier layer lines, but forgiving and low-maintenance.
  • Resin (SLA) — the detail king. Unbeatable for miniatures, jewelry, and smooth surfaces. But sticky, toxic resin, plus washing and UV-curing after every print.
